The DNS plugin is automatically enabled when you add a new device to SevOne NMS to enable you to check whether the DNS server can resolve the addresses you specify. Perform the following steps to enable the DNS plugin for each device from which you want to monitor DNS metrics.
From the navigation bar, click the Devices menu and select Device Manager.
Either add a device with the DNS plugin or edit a device to enable the DNS plugin.
Click Add Device to display the New Device page.
Click to display the Edit Device page.
- Click the plugin drop-down (displays SNMP by default) and select DNS.
Select the Monitor DNS Data check box.
On the New Device page, click Save as New to display the Edit Device page to perform the next steps.
Click Edit DNS Information to display the DNS Objects for <device> pop-up.
On the DNS Objects for <device> pop-up, click Create New Object to display fields to enable you to specify a new DNS object to poll.
In the Domain Name field, enter the domain name to resolve.
Select the Enabled check box to enable polling of the object. This should be selected.
In the Name field, enter a unique name for the object.
In the Description field, enter the description of the object to display.
Click Save This Object.
Repeat these steps to create additional objects.
Click Return To Edit Page to return to the Edit Device page.
