NBAR Plugin

The NBAR plugin is automatically enabled when you add a new device to SevOne NMS to enable you to monitor Network Based Application Recognition data. NBAR is a classification engine that recognizes and classifies protocols and applications, including web-based and other difficult to classify applications and protocols that use dynamic TCP/User Datagram Protocol (UDP) port assignments. NBAR can help you configure appropriate quality of service (QoS) for application or traffic. NBAR classifies the following types of protocols.

• Non-UDP and non-TCP IP protocols

• TCP and UDP protocols that use statically assigned port numbers

• TCP and UDP protocols that use statically assigned port numbers but still require stateful inspection

• TCP and UDP protocols that dynamically assign port numbers and therefore require stateful inspection

Data from outside protocols displays in an Unknown category. The NBAR Reports page enables you to display NBAR report information.

After you enable the device to send NBAR data to SevOne NMS, confirm that the SNMP plugin is enabled for a device when you enable the NBAR plugin. Please refer to section Enable NBAR in SevOne NMS System Administration Guide .

Perform the following steps to enable the NBAR plugin for each device from which you want to poll NBAR metrics.

1. From the navigation bar, click the Devices menu and select Device Manager.

2. Either add a device with the NBAR plugin or edit a device to enable the NBAR plugin.

   • Click Add Device to display the New Device page.

   • Click to display the Edit Device page.

3. In the plugins section, confirm that the SNMP Capable check box is selected.

4. - Click the plugin drop-down (displays SNMP by default) and select NBAR.

5. Select the Monitor NBAR Data check box.
